Bananas Clarke
Instantly notable for his outre nomenclature, photographer Bananas Clarke’s formative years saw him swimming in waters of make-believe and whimsy. While his peers came together around the soccer pitch, his social impulse led him to create communities where minds converged to create a magical subculture: the conversation traversing boundaries between the everyday and fantastical realms.
Bananas’ desire to bring people together through play, creativity and capturing the collision of reverie and the real world, lead him to photography. His formal university training was nothing on the 200-300 photographers he went on to assist across the next decade, internationally. From artistic masters to technical lighting geeks, from the suavest puppetmasters of the photo set to the shiest crafters of light and composition, he witnessed and learned the full gamut of the medium - moving along the continuum of art to science and back again.
In his own practice, Bananas’ creative expression is utterly authentic to himself. His inspiration comes not from an over-study of the arts, but rather the concrete and natural world he lives in - where a night drive might be enough to generate a narrative that forms the foundation of his next idea. The result is bold in every sense - a fearlessness around toying with proportion and volume, of scale, of colour, of noise. Underlying every image, a sense of humour - a lightness of being and a delight in play, a belly laugh and a cracking open of mental horizons. It feels like just what we need.

He has shot editorials for Vogue, Esquire, Harpers Bazaar, Instlye, Marie Claire, Nylon, Elle Magazine, Glamcult, Garage Magazine, 10 Magazine, Side-Note, RUSSH and more.
