Carly Lim
Makeup artist Carly Lim’s striking body of work appropriately reflects her meandering route into her chosen career - which saw her graduating in Chemistry no less, before taking her life savings to enrol in studying makeup in New York. She next found herself in London, working under the guidance of some of the industry greats - Yadim, Terry Barber, Thomas de Kluyver and Lauren Parsons.
Applying an intuitive approach to colour and texture and a reverence for the micro and the macro, Carly's practice is marked out by a fearlessness of play and experimentation and a precision of application. Her layered understanding of how to craft narrative sees her using the face not merely as a canvas but as a portal to traverse the interplay between revealing truth and creating something wholly transformative. She describes her work as emotive, refined and subversive, and approaches every brief afresh - with a deliberate naivety and an open spirit - ensuring that each new commission is the birthplace of originality.
Carly’s work has featured in publications such as Vogue Australia, Russh, Marie Claire, Kinfolk, Harper’s Bazaar, 10Mag, SIDE-NOTE, Grazia, Order Mag, and ELLE, commercial clients include; St Agni, Emma Brewin, Jones Magazine, Incu, Amazon, Charles & Keith, Pepsi, Reliquia, MISHA, byBaby, Wackie Ju, TrophyWife, Apres Studio, Haluminous, SWOP, with public personas Lola Young, Benee, Andy Butler, Megan Washington and Ash Barty, Ruel.
