Stephanie Dell
Born with a brush in her hand, by three year's old hair stylist Stephanie Dell was attending Hair Expo Australia; age fifteen found her mopping salon floors and nineteen delivered her to the set of her first professional photoshoot. Founded in both classical training as well as extensive salon-floor experience from a young age, Stephanie’s path was forged through immersion, dedication, ambition and a singular creative vision.
Early exposure to live music and image culture ignited Stephanie’s creative imagination: she sparked off the theatrics and identity formation of pop icons and performers who delighted in the power of metamorphosis. Hair was glamour, armour, statement and rebellion. By contrast, inspiration from the pages of fashion rags presented hair through silhouette, restraint, polished compliance and subtle subversion. Thus, the tension between refinement and rawness is the starting point of Stephanie’s work, from where she layers in context - assessing proportion, mood, and narrative.
Working with intention rather than impulse, Stephanie’s practice is rooted in discipline and intuition. Her connection with her craft has fostered deep self-trust alongside prioritising collaboration: listening first, interpreting second, executing third. Her work defies stereotype, evolving in tandem with the seismic shifts in image-making in the modern era, balancing immediacy with craftsmanship, and underscored with a constant of honesty.
